An image mosaic of highlights for The Odyssey Return sailing course

Relax and explore after the rigors of the regatta. The Odyssey Return is a post-race adventure cruise from Cefalonia to Trogir — blending serious 24-hour offshore pushes with frequent stops at the most beautiful, authentic historic harbors between Greece and Croatia.

This is the perfect wind-down after the intensity of the Aegean 600 Regatta. We trace the path of ancient mariners, stopping at key historical sites that define the connection between Greece and the Adriatic, from the Venetian fortresses of Corfu to the ancient Greek colonies of Epidaurus, Pharos, and Tragurion.

The Route

Departure from Cefalonia Departure from Cefalonia: We leave the Ionian island of Cefalonia in our wake, beginning the journey northward. Ahead lies a route that traces the path of Odysseus himself — through the islands that shaped Greek mythology and into the Adriatic heart of the Venetian empire.

Sailing past Ithaca toward Corfu The Ionian Start (Cefalonia → Corfu): We sail north past Ithaca — Odysseus's home — and Paxos to Corfu (Kerkyra). This leg involves navigating the channel between the islands and the Albanian coast.

Crossing the Strait of Otranto northbound toward Cavtat The Return to Epidaurus (Corfu → Cavtat): The "Otranto Crossing" northbound. We leave Greek waters and sail across the strait to re-enter Croatia at Cavtat (ancient Epidaurus). This is a tactical leg, often fighting the prevailing NW Maestral.

Odysseus Cave on the island of Mljet The Calypso Trap (Cavtat → Mljet): A short hop to Mljet, believed by scholars to be the mythical Ogygia. This is where the nymph Calypso held Odysseus captive. We visit the stunning Odysseus Cave (Odisejeva špilja), accessible only from the sea.

Stari Grad Plain on Hvar, UNESCO World Heritage The Ancient Field (Mljet → Hvar): We sail to Stari Grad (Pharos) on Hvar. We visit the UNESCO-protected Stari Grad Plain, the best-preserved Greek land division in the Mediterranean.

The old town of Trogir, ancient Tragurion The Greek Legacy (Hvar → Trogir): The final leg to Trogir (ancient Tragurion). Founded by Greeks from Vis (Issa), its orthogonal street plan is the perfect historical bookend to our journey.

The perfect post-regatta adventure

Limited to 4 crew places. Offshore passages with coastal exploration.

What You'll Gain:

  • Continued Mile-Building: Additional offshore miles logged after the regatta — ideal for building towards YM Offshore, YM Ocean, or higher qualifications.
  • Offshore & Coastal Blend: Experience both 24-hour non-stop passages and relaxed coastal navigation. The best of both worlds.
  • Night Sailing: Watchkeeping rotations on overnight legs. Consolidate the confidence built during the regatta.
  • Passage Planning: Practical experience routing along complex coastlines, managing weather windows, and making tactical harbour decisions.
  • Cultural Exploration: Stops at authentic Greek, Ionian, and Adriatic harbors — places where the marinas are small, the food is extraordinary, and the history runs deep.
  • Mileage & Passage Confirmation: Official documentation of your passage for license applications and logbook records.

Prerequisites:

  • Sailing Experience: Completion of our Advanced Sailing Course (or equivalent verifiable experience). Prior offshore or overnight experience is beneficial but not mandatory — especially if you've just completed the Aegean 600 with us.
  • Physical Fitness: You must be able to handle watch duties for the offshore legs. The coastal days are more relaxed, but the offshore passages demand the same focus as any serious open-water sailing.
  • Dependability: Be prepared to perform roles and assignments as designated by the skipper, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach to teamwork.
  • Team Spirit: A positive attitude, sense of humor, and willingness to share tasks. We cook together, clean together, and explore together.
  • Resilience: A genuine love for sailing that endures across varied conditions — from scorching Adriatic sun to brisk night watches.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this more of a cruise or an offshore passage?

Both. The Siren's Wake is designed to blend serious offshore sailing legs with relaxed coastal stops. Some days you will be sailing through the night on a 24-hour offshore push. Other days you will be anchored in a quiet bay, exploring a village, or enjoying fresh seafood at a local trattoria. The skipper sets the pace based on weather and crew preference.

What does the price cover?

Everything you need for the passage: accommodation on board, skipper services, fuel, and all standard expenses. The only extras are personal safety equipment, your travel to Cefalonia and from Trogir, your food and drinks, and any potential marina fees if we make tactical stops.

Can I combine this with the Aegean 600?

That is the ideal plan! Race at the Aegean 600 Regatta in Sounio, then meet us in Cefalonia and join The Odyssey Return for an unforgettable sail to Trogir.

What about the outbound journey?

We offer The Argonaut Offshore Crossing — a non-stop offshore passage from Pula to Sounio before the regatta. The ultimate pre-regatta preparation.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancellation terms are in our Terms and Conditions. We recommend travel insurance that covers event cancellation.
